Lenovo IdeaPad U300S – An Awesome Laptop With A Compact Designs

The idea of   "ultrabook" appeared at Computex 2011, when Intel officially announced the portable category. Recently, Intel aims to create a strong brand from the ultrabook term and the buyers to associate this name with a very thin laptop - under 2cm, which costs under $ 1,000 (which is not strictly adhered by most manufacturers), weigh under 1.4 kg, to come equipped with last generation technology of Core i3/i5/i7 and a great battery autonomy.

Asus was the first who presented a portable ultrabook at the fair last summer and we are also talking about the Asus UX21 model. Then more and more producers have aligned to Intel requirements and have announced models, some more interesting than others. Some managed to get out on the ultrabook's market by the end of last year, other vendors have postponed the launch until spring.

Lenovo is one of the producers who have submitted to a grid ultrabook compact, slim, light and here we are talking about the Lenovo IdeaPad U300S model alone. It was announced last autumn, but is on the market from only 2-3 months. This is part of the IdeaPad line, a generation of dedicated entertainment, and we can say that is the successor of the Lenovo IdeaPad U260 model.

I liked the compact form, design and configuration of the top folder. Lenovo used the same materials as they have met on U260, plus I liked the color, matte gray.

Configuration was based on a Core i5-2467M model that it can be met on several ultrabook models, 4GB DDR3 RAM and a 128GB SSD. I can say that the Lenovo IdeaPad U300S is doing very well for office work, business activities and travel may be practical.

Lenovo IdeaPad U300S strengths:

+ Good onfiguration for an ultrabook;

+ Palmrest comfortable;

+ Stylish and attractive;

+ Good autonomy.

Lenovo IdeaPad U300S weaknesses:

- Lack of a card reader;

- Display angles of vision.

The Lenovo IdeaPad U300S model comes as a follower of IdeaPad U260 model launched in the spring of 2011. We see many similarities between the two. I'm surprised than this action made by Lenovo. If other manufacturers have released a new line of portable, with new specifications and a special name, the Chinese manufacturer aforementioned preferred to integrate the ultrabook in a range of existing products.

In the short term may have been better, but long term I tend to think that Lenovo will lose. The ultrabook phenomenon grows, Intel invests more and more to promote this new category of portable, and most manufacturers seek to position themselves prominently on the market. Meanwhile, the Lenovo IdeaPad U300S ultrabook remains in the shadow of the IdeaPad series and with the IdeaPad U260 laptop as a reference.

Related to Lenovo IdeaPad U300S I can say that I liked it on the outside. I am a fan of compact design, well defined and attractive. I would say is a more refined model.

Doesn't have many ports, it's even missing one of the most popular - card reader.

On the left side we have a USB 2.0 port.

On the right we have the audio port, USB 3.0, HDMI port and power port.

Lifting the lid, we can find the glossy LED 13.3-inch screen. The display is slim, well integrated into the ultrabook design, but have common features - 1366 x 768 resolution and not very generous viewing angles.

The keyboard is full size and ergonomic chiclet type. Trackpad is multitouch, is generously sized, and the two buttons (left click and right click) have tactile surface. Lenovo IdeaPad U300S comes with quite a few extra elements to highlight it.
